The owner of a honey bee farm named PT. Kembang Joyo Sriwijaya, Ustadi, S.Pt., M.Pt. After taking the hybrid open dissertation exam Tuesday (15/3/2022), he got his doctorate. He is a student of the Animal Science Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) class 2017.

With his supervisor, Prof. Suyadi, Prof. M.Nur Ihsan, and Prof. M. Junus, he make research about “Optimization of the Local Queen Bee (Apis cerana javana Fabr.).

According to him, a quality queen bee has good physical characteristics because these traits will be passed down to generations. Currently, the engineering of Apis mellifera has been developed. However, it is different from the local queen bee Apis cerana javana Fabr. which are still dependent on the natural urge of the worker bees in captivity. This resulted in delays in increasing the quantity and quality of the local queen bee Apis cerana javana Fabr.

“Therefore, it is necessary to engineer a local queen bee captive by paying attention to several things. Among them are the size of the nest, the material for making nests, the application of the media, the method of grafting, the number of larvae, and the age of the larvae.” clearly Ustadi

The research was conducted at PT. Kembang Joyo Donowarih Karangploso, Malang using seven bee colonies. There are six colonies for the experiment and one colony as a source of larvae in the captivity queen bee. The variables observed were acceptance and percentage of approval, cubital, distance, radial field, radial cell, dumbbell index, inner wing length, inner wing width, hind limb morphometry, pupa length, and queen bee morphometry.

Based on the study results, it can be concluded that the use of 6 and 12 larvae at one day of larval age increases the acceptance of larvae in the local queen bee captivity. The use of one day larval age can increase birth weight, body length, and abdomen length of the local queen bee Apis cerana javana Fabr. (dta)
