Eruption The eruption of Mount Semeru that occurred on Saturday (4/12/2021) had an impact on the lives of the surrounding community and livestock. Similar to human victims, livestock that can still be saved also need assistance with medical examinations and feed supplies.
Based on data from the farms affected by the Semeru eruption in Lumajang Regency, there are around 3021 farmers with a total of 764 cattle, 684 goats and sheep, and 1578 poultry.
The Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) together with the Indonesian Animal Husbandry Graduate Association (ISPI) East Java III branch launched animal feed assistance to Candipuro – Lumajang, Wednesday (12/8/2021). Assistance in the form of eight tons of forage and machine chopper (grass cutter) to make it easier for livestock to consume it. Forage grass is obtained from UB’s land in Jatikerto Village.
Deputy Dean III, Dr. Agus Susilo, who also took part in the field, said that this effort was not only for animal welfare but also for calming the farmers in the refugee camps. Because livestock is a valuable treasure for them.
“This is initial assistance from Fapet UB, ISPI, animal lover organizations, and the Animal Husbandry Service. Next, we will look for information on green land for animal feed that is not exposed to volcanic ash, to jointly make feed preservation called silage,” said Agus (dta)
