Community Service : Livestock Health Management Online Seminar by Fapet UB Lecturer

Lecturers of the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) conduct community service activities through online seminars, Saturday (17/07/2021). Carrying the title “Advocacy on Improving Goat Health Management in Intensive Patterns and Availability of OV (Drugs and Vaccines) & Disease Disorders in Goats, the team involved is Dr. dr. Rositawati.,MP (chairman), consisting of Artharini Irsyammawati.,S.Pt.,MP, Anie Eka Kusumastuti, S.Pt, MP, M.Sc, and Jaisy Aghniarahim Putritamara, S.Pt.,MP.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the seminar was drh. mokh. Aris Wahyudi, M.Agr (Chairman of the Indonesian Sheep Goat Association). He explained the improvement of intensive goat health management and the availability of OV. Then from the academic side, represented by Dr. Rositawati Indrati who conveyed disorders and diseases in goats.

According to Rosita, the features of raising goats and sheep are easy maintenance, does not require a large area of ​​land, not large capital, various sources of feed are available, fast yields, short calving period, high adaptability, and produce meat, milk, and some hair products. 

He said to optimize productivity in raising goats and sheep is to implement good health management in livestock governance. Animal health management includes biosecurity (cleanliness of feed, drinking, and the environment), sanitation, quarantine, and general health programs.  

Factors that affect the success of livestock business, among others, natural resources, the environment, and humans. This concept provides higher business efficiency with adequate production quality. Efforts to obtain optimal integrated livestock are enriched with technological values, through technological approaches, livestock product processing, livestock health, housing systems, and supporting cultivation management.

“We hope that through this seminar, we can share knowledge with the general public for goat and sheep breeders to implement good livestock health management. So that it can minimize the disruption of disease attacks to achieve optimal productivity.” said Rosita (dta)
