Honey Apis melliferabee is a superior bee strain that has been widely developed in Indonesia as a honey producer. Because in one year this bee strain can produce about 50 kg of honey per colony. Quoting from the directorate general of the RLPS, stated that these European bees have contributed about 25% of the total honey production in Indonesia, which is an average of 4000 tons per year.
According to a beekeeping expert lecturer from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), Dr. Sri Minarti, the high production of honey bees is due to good colony development and the high growth of Apis mellifera bee cultivation in Indonesia. Because the Apis mellifera honey bee is known to have a high level of productivity.
He conveyed this in an online counseling regarding honey bee cultivation Apis mellifera, Thursday (11/18/2021) together with Lecturer of Livestock Products Technology, Ria Dewi Andriani, M. Sc. This activity is a community service aimed at beginners, so that most of the participants are students and the general public which reaches 266 people. The goal is to introduce and increase knowledge about apis mellifera honey bee cultivation.
The materials given include knowing the biology of honey bees, recognizing honey bee strains in Indonesia, how to select colonies, how to control colonies, strategies for grazing colonies, honey bee reproduction, how to break up colonies, and how to harvest products.
