Overview of Wonoayu Village to Become A Cluster of Beef Cattle Breeding Oriented Agribusiness

Research Group Red Meat Producers (RG RMT) Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) made a visit and comparative study to the Wonokoyo livestock group, Sunday (12/09/2021). The livestock group located in Wonoayu Village, Wajak District – Malang Regency is under the guidance of the Livestock Service Office of Malang Regency, which is engaged in breeding beef cattle.

The purpose of the arrival of Prof. Trinil Susilawati, Dr. Kuswati, and Rizki Prafitri Ph.D. is to get to know the profile of the Wonokoyo livestock group and exploring unsolved problems. The reason is that the livestock group has ambitions to become the champion of the beef cattle group in East Java.

Along the road to Wonoayu Village, forage grass and legumes have been planted for animal feed. This shows that many farmers are starting to realize that they are planting forage independently.

However, breeders are constrained by the low pregnancy rate despite injecting mating or Artificial Insemination (IB). According to Prof. Trinil, this happens because of the high value of service per conception. In addition, after examination using ultrasound, it was found that many cows had ovarian hypofunction. That is a condition in which the ovaries do not grow follicles, and the corpus luteum is followed by a slippery surface, so their workability decreases regularly.

Another problem in the Wonokoyo livestock group is that an agribusiness business or has not been established farming system. After the review activity, Trinil et al. hoped there would be cooperation between the Wonokoyo cattle group and the RG RMP Fapet UB to realize Wonoayu Village into an agribusiness-oriented beef cattle breeding cluster.
