UB Faculty of Animal Science Lecturers and Students Conduct Research to Produce Female Calves  

Lecturers and Students of Undergraduate Program (S1) Faculty of Animal ScienceUniversitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) run a program competitive fund through research. The team consisting of Prof. Trinil Susilawati, Prof. Nurul Isnaini, Dr. Kuswati, Dr. Sri Wahyuningsih, Aulia Puspita Anugra Yekti, M.Sc and the 10 final semester undergraduate students implemented Artificial Insemination (IB) or injection mating using semen seeing (X-sperm) to obtain female calves (calf). So that later it can be used as a replacement broodstock.

The location of the research was carried out in the SAE Pujon Cooperative by using a sample of 300crossbreeds Friesian Holstein (FH)belonging to members of the cooperative. The cows used for the study were cows that had given birth normally, had a body condition score (BCS) with a value greater than three, and were between three and seven years old.

Given the uncontrolled pandemic conditions, students were accompanied by inseminators and field officers to go directly to the field according to health protocols in turn. For students, the results of this research can be used as a final thesis report.

On the other hand Prof. Trinil hopes that in the future the SAE Pujon Cooperative can do dairy cattle breeding independently so as to minimize and even stop the import of cattle breeds. (Nien/dta)
