Lecturers of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) develop the agricultural and livestock sectors in Ngawonggo Village, Tajinan District – Malang Regency by applying an integrative pattern and the principle of zero waste. Namely utilizing sheep manure waste into manure for planting oyster mushrooms. Then the rest of the growing media (baglog) oyster mushrooms are used as feed ingredients for sheep.

They are members of the Doctoral Service (DM) team consisting of Dr. Ir. Irfan H. Djunaidi, M.Sc., IPM (Faculty of Animal Science), Artharini Irsyamawati, MS (Faculty of Animal Science), Dr. Putu Hadi Setyorini, MT (Faculty of Engineering), Dr. Imam Hanafi (Faculty of Administrative Sciences), and Fery Abdul Choliq, SP, MP, M.Sc (Faculty of Agricultural Technology).

According to Dr. Irfan as team leader, this activity is a continuation of last year’s program, which only focused on developing sheep for livestock groups and the Angkring Fatchul Ulum Islamic boarding school in Ngawonggo Village. Initially, they only had 25 broods and one male sheep. However, in just one year, it has grown to produce 15 lambs.

“Then this year we (DM team) developed the agricultural sector in Ngawonggo Village by utilizing livestock manure. The integration of these two sectors will minimize waste production and increase the benefits of raising sheep,” said Irfan. The

activity is expected to open up opportunities for the development of oyster mushroom cultivation SMEs, mushroom processing industries, organic compost production for students and communities around Islamic boarding schools. As well as increasing the role of Islamic boarding schools in the community in order to improve attitudes, morals, and socio-economics to the community around the lodge. (dta)
