Lecturer of Health and Livestock Reproduction, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Islamic University of Malang (Unisma), drh. Nurul Humaidah, M.Kes took the hybrid open dissertation exam, Wednesday (12/1/2022). He is a student of the Animal Science Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB).
Nurul raised research entitled “Molecular Profile of Stress and Relationship of Stress Molecular Profile on Artificial Insemination (IB) Intra Cervical Ettawa Crossbreeds (PE) on AI Success.” The promoter involved is Prof. Pratiwi Trisunuwati, Alm. Prof. Woro Busono, Prof. M. Nur Ihsan, and Prof. Gatot Ciptadi.
According to him, the productivity of local goats in Indonesia is still relatively low compared to goats from sub-tropical regions. This is influenced by a few breeding efforts made by breeders. Whereas the superiority of local goats lies in their adaptability and reproductive efficiency which is quite good.
“Increasing goat productivity can be done through breeding programs, improving reproductive efficiency, improving maintenance and care management,” explained Nurul
“The breeding program can be carried out through crosses or selection, but it will be more efficient if through the application of reproductive technology such as artificial insemination (IB).” he continued.
However, the implementation of AI is thought to stress the goats, which can be seen in the physiological status of the livestock, namely body temperature, respiration, and heart rate. The body responds to stress that arises by forming stress molecules or the initial barrier to the stress response.
The research sample used blood from 15 PE brooders, with three stages, including measuring the physiological status of the goats as a study supporting the relationship between stress molecular profiles and the success of intracervical AI. Both measure enzymatic molecules and examine non-enzymatic molecules to determine differences in stress molecular profiles before and after IB. The last step was observing progesterone levels, litter size, birth weight, and weaning weight.
Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the physiological status and molecular profile of PE goats before IB were different from those after IB. Meanwhile, stress molecules do not have a direct impact on the success of AI but have an impact on progesterone, where progesterone affects the success of AI. (dta)
