Limura cattle are the result of crossing Limousin cattle with Madura cattle through Artificial Insemination (AI). The advantages of Limura cattle compared to Madura cattle are vital statistical measurements such as chest circumference, body length, height, body condition score (BCS), and productivity which are more superior. However from a reproductive perspective, Madura cattle are better from Limura cows.
Madura cattle and Limura cattle have genetic and physiological differences that affect their ability to cope with heat stress and dry tropical climate conditions. Madura cattle are able to adapt and deal with dry climates.Genetically tolerant to hot climates means resistance to tick attacks, good adaptation to poor feed quality and lower feed requirements compared to imported cattle.
This was conveyed by the Lecturer Madura University, Desi Kurniati Agustina, S.Pt., M.Agr. in a study titled “Physiological Response of Madura Cattle and Their Crosses with Limousin Cattle in Dry Tropical Climate in Pamekasan Regency.”The dissertation research was conducted atPegagan Village, Baddurih Village, and Bunder Village, Pademawu District – Pamekasan Regency.
Desi analyzesHeat Tolerance coefficient (HTC) and Temperature humidity index (THI), examine the physiological, hematological, metabolic and hormonal responses of Madura and Limura cattle in different seasons. The research material used was 120 cows, consisting of30 cows Madura and 30 Limura cows in the wet season, and 30 Madura cattle and 30 Limura cows in the dry season.
Based on analysis he concluded that it was the dry season potentially effect of heat stress on both Madura and Limura cattle. In general how Madura and Limura cattle show acclimation ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
However, Madura cattle in the dry season and wet season have the best acclimation abilities when compared to Limura cattle. The acclimation ability of Madura cattle to adapt to environmental conditions is characterized by changes in physiological, hematologic, metabolic and hormonal responses in the blood.
The results of this study have been presented openly in front of promoters, examiners, and invited guests, Wednesday (12/7/2023) in a hybrid manner. Desi is registered as a Doctoral Program student in Animal Science at the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB). (dta)
