In an effort to advance the livestock and fisheries sectors, which play a significant role in contributing to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDRP) of Blitar Regency, a strategic meeting was held between the Livestock and Fisheries Department of Blitar Regency and the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya (UB). This initiative was led by the Head of the Livestock and Fisheries Department of Blitar Regency, Eko Susanto, S.T., M.Si., accompanied by his team, and warmly welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science at UB, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Halim Natsir, S.Pt., MP., IPM., ASEAN Eng., along with other faculty leaders.
The event was also attended by deans from related faculties, including the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH UB), drh. Dyah Ayu Oktavianie AP., M.Biotech; the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK UB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si.; and the Secretary of the Research and Community Service Agency (BPPM FAPET UB), Ria Dewi Andriani, S.Pt., M.Sc., MP. The meeting aimed to explore potential collaborations in the development of these sectors in Blitar Regency.
The discussion revealed the Livestock and Fisheries Department of Blitar Regency’s desire to collaborate with the Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet), the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) at Universitas Brawijaya. Eko Susanto presented the significant potential held by Blitar Regency, including coastal areas, the South Coast Route (JLS), Fish Auction Places (TPI), and the livestock sector, which are expected to be developed through innovation and contributions from the academic community to improve the local economy and community welfare.
The Dean of Fapet UB, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Halim Natsir, suggested that the potentials and issues should be further elaborated, enabling collaboration through research and community service activities for effective implementation. This initiative is expected to pave the way for sustainable development in the livestock and fisheries sectors in Blitar Regency, while also strengthening the synergy between local government and educational institutions in advancing these sectors for community welfare.
