Blitar, 01/05/2024. In an effort to strengthen synergy between academia and practitioners in the livestock sector, the Faculty of Animal Science at Brawijaya University hosted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with local farmers in Blitar District. This initiative was aimed at advancing technology and enhancing the quality of Dorper sheep.
The forum, held on Wednesday, was attended by experts and practitioners, including Prof. Tri Eko Susilorini and Prof. Kuswati from the Faculty of Animal Science at Brawijaya University, Dr. Gambira Moran from PT. Gema Satwa Medika, and Mr. Agus Wawan, owner of DOMBA PRIME INDONESIA FARM, along with several Dorper sheep farmers from the area.
The discussion focused on management strategies for the care and health of Dorper sheep, facilitating an exchange of information on efficient livestock management practices. Based on the management systems employed by the farmers, the academics and practitioners provided recommendations for improving efficiency and sustainability of farm operations.
Previously, Mr. Agus Wawan had imported 500 full-blood Dorper sheep from Australia, chosen for their superior meat quality, adaptability to hot climates, ease of maintenance, and rapid growth.
Responding to the positive outcomes of the forum, Prof. Tri Eko Susilorini expressed optimism about the continuation of this collaboration. “We hope that this collaboration will continue. By exchanging information and experiences, we are confident in creating new innovations in the development of a sustainable and profitable livestock industry,” she stated.
Participants of the forum agreed on the importance of such activities in building a strong cooperation network between academics and practitioners, and in strengthening the livestock industry as a whole. It is expected that the forum will be held regularly to maintain the momentum of collaboration and innovation within the industry. (dh/mt)
